SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Marblehead and Swampscott will share in $2.1 million in Massachusetts Community One Stop for Growth grants, according to an announcement from the North Shore legislative delegation.
The grant program is funded annually by the Massachusetts State Legislature and is described in the announcement as a cornerstone of economic and housing development in Massachusetts. The administration said the program supports partnerships with cities and towns as they develop and carry out local economic development priorities.
Local awards included $718,445 to Marblehead to advance design and engineering for the Marblehead Rail Trail, $145,000 to Nahant to support community planning and zoning bylaw updates, and $1.4 million to Swampscott for the Pine Street Water Project.
The Swampscott project will upsize existing water main infrastructure to support the Veterans Crossing housing project and future housing projects along Pine Street and Railroad Avenue.
"This funding will support important revitalization efforts across the district, expanding housing access and amplifying economic development across our cities and towns," said State Sen. Brendan Crighton (D-Lynn). "Thank you to all of our municipal partners for their hard work on each of these infrastructure initiatives."
"These grants will help turn local priorities into lasting improvements — from advancing Marblehead's Rail Trail to strengthening Swampscott's water infrastructure to support new housing and revitalizing Lynn's waterfront," said State Rep. Jenny Armini (D-Marblehead).
