SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A fire at a multifamily home on Erie Street in Swampscott is being investigated as a possible arson, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
A State Fire Marshal spokesperson confirmed to Patch that the Swampscott Police Department requested investigators from its office to assist in finding out what, or who, caused the blaze.
"It remains under investigation by State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal's office as well as Swampscott PD," the Office told Patch on Thursday.
There were no reported injuries in the fire that broke out early Wednesday morning.
WHDH-TV reported that investigators believe the fire may have been caused by someone tossing an incendiary device from a car at the building.
Two families were displaced from the recently renovated home that sustained heavy smoke damage in the blaze that broke out about 2 a.m.
Swampscott fire crews were quickly able to contain the fire once they responded, but the damage remained extensive.
