Acting is the way for Meghan Fisher

Since her first exposure to theatre in grade school, Meghan Fisher has been determined to get as much acting experience as possible. This strong sense of purpose has led the Swampscott High School senior to participate in a wide range of acting pursuits including recent work as a paid actor.

Fisher’s background includes an impressive resume of roles in a variety of local venues. With two of her earliest shows at the Salem Theatre of Light (Sleeping Beauty and Hansel and Gretel), she also has played roles in productions at the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore (Jungle Book, Charlie Brown and Babes on Broadway), Marblehead Little Theatre (Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Oklahoma, Willy Wonka), Swampscott Middle School (Beauty and Beast, Annie), and Swampscott High School (Damn Yankees, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and The Red Velvet Cake War).

This year, Fisher landed her first professional acting job at Salem’s Witches Cottage, performing at the Haunted House and Halloween Show. She also performed at the Griffon Theatre in A Christmas Carol as Belle and the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Fisher’s many acting gigs have kept her busy, at times requiring her to go straight from the rehearsal of one play in the afternoon to the rehearsal of another in the evening. Despite the sometimes frenetic schedule, she has thrived on these experiences.

“Acting has shaped my childhood, given me self-confidence and helped me become who I am today,” she says, “I have learned a lot about people and how to work with others. It has become a part of my life.”

As for favorite roles, she loved being the lead in a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum as well as her work at the Witches Cottage.

“It is a lot different to be a paid actor,” she remarks, “It feels a lot more accomplished.

When I did the main show, I could put my own personality into the character. I liked having that freedom. “

The daughter of Gretchen and John Fisher, Fisher also has a background in singing and dance. She learned singing technique and strengthened her voice by participating in the High School and Middle School Choruses as well as North Shore Voices, a selective signing group. She also has many years of dance experience. Her other interests include cross-country running and competitive sailing.

Acting, however, is her primary interest and the discipline she intends to pursue in college and possibly through community theatre. With her determination, those acting gigs may just be beginning.
