Andrews Chapel Will Be Open for Public Viewing in Late May

The building on the National Register of Historic Places has undergone extensive renovations in recent years.

Historic Andrews Chapel will once again open its doors to visitors on May 25, 2015.

The chapel on the grounds of the Swampscott Cemetery had fallen into disrepair until a group of volunteers started a campaign to restore it. The first phase of the restoration, repairing the roof, tuckpointing the stone and fixing the doors, was completed in 2010.

Then, in 2013, local Boy Scout Michael Norcott spearheaded the refinishing of 14 of the chapel’s 20 original pews as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Thomas Barber Restoration and Construction tackled the repair of the chapel’s stained glass windows in the summer of 2014. According to a post on that company’s website, the windows suffered from damage caused by vandals and even some damage resulting from repairs to the exterior of the building.

On Monday, May 25, 2015 from 10 a.m. to noon, the public is invited to visit Andrews Chapel and see the work that has already been accomplished as well as the work that remains to be completed.
