Big Blue Softball Battling For Tournament Spot

After Big Blue's 9-3 loss to Winthrop earlier in the week the girls needed three wins to be play-off bound.

"We are 7-7 and battling for a play-off spot," said Coach Frank Kowalski. "The kids have learned a lot and we keep putting an emphasis on the little things and focusing on our defense."

The coach said junior pitcher Danielle Mayblyum has stepped up. Offensively, Tori Thisle and Sam Rizzo have been steady contributors and played solid defense.

"Tessa Bean and Christina King are our power hitters and we are looking for them both to get hot down the stretch," the coach said. 

The coach said Big Blue played their best game last week losing to Danvers 2-0 on their field. Danvers is 16-0, and Kowalski said his team outplayed them. If the girls can duplicate that effort they will be tough to beat.

The coach said his assistant, Coach Moran, has done a terrific job helping prepare the girls and the coaches think their best softball is ahead of them. 

They will close out the regular season with a busy week — games against Gloucester, Marblehead, Everett and Holland tournament games against Lynn teams.
