Make New Friends at the Swampscott Yacht Club

Swampscott Yacht Club Open House, Saturday, May 19, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The Swampscott Yacht Club will hold an open house for prospective members on Saturday, May 19, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Come wander out to the new porch for the best views in Swampscott and hear about exciting plans for a renovated kitchen to serve the club and private parties.

The SYC is almost as old as the building in which it’s housed: the “Fish House” at 425 Humphrey St., built in 1896 and on the National Register of Historic Places. The club was founded in 1933 for social as well as boating-related activities, and splits its 200 members among land-loving and ocean-going enthusiasts.

The volunteer club provides year-round social activities in addition to seasonal launch service, fishing tournaments, weekly sailboat races and group trips to nearby islands including Misery, which is a lot more fun than it sounds.

Recently, the club launched a program titled, “Fish Tales from the Fish House,” a community lecture series. Swampscott Patch editor Terry Date thought the inaugural program, presented by 40-year lobsterman Richard Patch, “was terrific.”
