Swampscott Little League 10 Year-Olds Preparing for Massachusetts District 16 Tourney

Swampscott Little League 10 Year-Old Tournament team prepares for District 16 competition

As the dog days of summer eventually creep into New England, it signals the the start of the Little League Tournament season.  This year is no different for a plucky group of 10 year-old boys who have earned a spot on the Swampscott Little League 10 Year-Old Tournament Team.  The 13 boys were recognized for their regular season play by the Minors Division Managers and Tournament team Manager, Rob Hopkins.

"Defensively, for 10 year-olds, these boys can flat out play."  Noted Hopkins regarding the plucky group of boys who he sees as a very competitive, mentally tough group of kids.  There's no shortage of offensive firepower either- as the manager sees 7-8 kids on the team who are very good hitters for 10 year-olds, with the remaining players solid offensive threats.

The Swampscott 10's open their tournament schedule on Sunday, June 23rd at 10:00am in Nahant on Flash Rd.  They will play the winner of Lynn Shore/Peabody Blue who will battle the day before.

Assisting Hopkins with the Coaching responsibilities are Ken Perkins & Joe Marshall, who both also coached in the Minors Division this season.

"We're going to have a great time, as I've coached with both Kenny & Joe previously."  Noted Hopkins.  "We all know how the other ticks.  Kenny & I coached the 12 year-old All Star team together  last summer and Joe & I coached Majors together 2 years ago.  I know we will all enjoy the experience and keep it fun for the boys while trying to be as competitive as possible as a team."

In tournament play, a team will usually only go as far as its pitching takes them.  This summer should be no different for the Swampscott 10's, as Hopkins is relying on the arms of 4 boys- all of whom he feels can get the job done.

"Without tipping our hand, I'll just say the four we plan to go with have been able to get the job done during the regular season, are very competitive boys and strike me as kids who can handle the pressure that sometimes manifests itself in tournament play."

The Swampscott 10's would really appreciate the support of local Swampscott residents for their first game this Sunday, 6/23 at 10:00am in Nahant.
