Alot of money is spent in this town and alot is also being lost. Our local government is spending huge dollars to build new schools and repair streets yet there are many neighborhoods taking on Street run off and Raw Sewage into their homes. A new high school has already been built and not one sewage or drain pipe has been upgraded yet streets are being ripped up while what lays underneath remains untouched. A quote from Gino Cresta " The old drain system cannot keep up with the growth". The town's answer So far to is spend money on everything but the flooding. Pave a street and dig it up a year later to add more drain pipes? In the meantime develop more land to compound to the Sewer and Street water volume. clay sewer pipes, apparently the only type in Swampscott were discontinued in the 70's because they fail. The town's original Street drain system was poorly engineered and has been flooding for 75yrs! http://swampscott.patch.com/articles/historical-photo-then-and-now-asks-... Our climate is changing to a more exreame state and our local gov. plows forward like a horse wearing blinders. Before spending on everything but flooding Priorities should be taken. If a new school is supposed to draw in more families to generate tax$$$ how many of those are going to want to live in a flooded town. Really this is becoming more than neglegant, Lawsuit waiting to happen.
