Convicted Rapist Sentenced For Sexual Assault In Separate Case

A prosecutor said the public is simply not safe with him on the streets.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A convicted rapist from Swampscott is facing new sexual assault charges and was sentenced six to eight years in prison on Tuesday for allegedly re-offending while on probation, reports say.

The Salem News reported that Giovanni Rossi, 45, in July was found guilty of violating his probation in the kidnapping and rape of of a woman in Medford and Somerville in 2002.

The violation of his probation happened when Rossi allegedly attempted to rape a Lynn woman in May after luring her into his Humphrey Street home, telling her he had a room to rent on Craigslist, Salem News reported. He is potentially facing a life sentence.

Rossi, along with hundreds of others, according to the Salem News, was removed from the sex offender registry in 2015 after the standard of proof required for sex offender classification was raised.

"The public is simply not safe with this man on the street," said prosecutor Kim Faitella. She said Rossi still poses a danger to women and that rehabilitation would not work.
