Five Things You Need To Know Today: April 18

1) Newsbit of the Day: Piling installation — foundation work — at the new Swampscott police station, on Humphrey Street, is expected to start in the next few weeks.

2) Swampscott Scholars:  inducted 29 National Honor Society members on March 13. The society honors students for excellence in four areas: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. One of the 29 students was Rachel Brooks.

3) Swampscott Athletics: The Big Blue girls' lacrosse team plays its second game in as many days when they square up against Peabody at 10 am at Phillips Park. The team scored 18 goals against St. Mary's on Monday.

4) Weather Watch:  The big cool down. National Weather Service is calling for a sunny day with a high near 56. That's 20 degrees cooler than what we felt on Monday.
