Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 29

1) Newsbit of the Day: The Swampscott Fire Department is training at Cap'n Jack's Inn this week. The buildings are to be demolished next week. On Wednesday they cut ventilation holes in the roof, called venting the roof. Firefighters do this at fires to release smoke and gases from within.

2) Swampscott Scholars:  Swampscott's Luke Palmer, a junior Acting major at Emerson College, earned the role of Asst. Dramaturg in the world premiere of Café Variations, a co-production between ArtsEmerson, Emerson Stage, and the world-renowned SITI Company. Palmer joins more than 50 fellow cast and crew members in this production. 

3) Swampscott Athletics:  The Big Blue track teams start competing Monday v Winthrop in Swampscott at 4 p.m. 

4) Weather Watch:  The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of showers, mainly before 1 pm. Cloudy, with a high near 46. 

5) Red Sox Watch: In seven days the Boston Red Sox play their first regular season game of the 2012 season. It's in Detroit at 1 pm vs the Tigers.
