To the Editor:
We, as the electorate, are presented with an opportunity to re-elect Glenn Kessler for a second term on the Board of Selectmen. This position is one that has been earned by the tireless efforts of Mr. Kessler, on behalf of all the residents of the Town of Swampscott. I have had the personal opportunity to interact with Selectman Kessler on numerous occasions and have been impressed by his purpose and commitment to all of his constituents. At a time when the Board of Selectmen’s acts have been questioned, Mr. Kessler has reached out to often competing positions aiming to strive for meaningful and respectful dialogue. Promises are made and I trust intentions are well meaning, but in Mr. Kessler, the actions he has shown and the continued compassion that he has provided with true non-partisanship have not only impressed me but clearly have impressed anyone who has either met or appeared before the Swampscott Board of Selectmen. In contrast, and although I have had several opportunities, I have not witnessed the same level of non-partisanship or respect shown by his opponent. Mr. Kessler’s talents and unflagging responsibility to the Town of Swampscott are clearly more than words but the actions of a committed public servant who resolutely gives of himself in an aim to encourage dialogue by weighing competing interests, thereby ultimately seeking to improve the Town of Swampscott. As the spouse of a former Selectman, I am compelled to offer my thoughts when I feel so strongly about the accomplishments and perseverance of Mr. Kessler. Mr. Kessler has impressed all of those who had the opportunity to have received a returned call, a returned email or a kind word in support of their position when presenting to the Board of Selectmen. It is those intangibles that cannot be replicated by effort alone, it is in the character of the individual and one which Mr. Kessler inherently possesses. Running for office is easy, delivering can be challenging, but elevating his constituency to a position of importance takes the efforts of an individual worth re-electing. I have observed the decency of a man humbled by the position and deserving of a second term.
I offer these words of support as I am proud to consider myself both a friend as well as a constituent of Mr. Kessler.
