Grand Army of the Republic Museum To Host Open House Event

The collaboration with the Disabled American Veterans of Swampscott and Lynn will include music, food, raffles at the GAR museum on June 24.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — The Disabled American Veterans of Swampscott and Lynn are joining with the Grand Army of the Republic Hall & Museum to host a unique open house event at the GAR Museum in Lynn on Saturday.

This will be the first year of the free event aimed at raising awareness for veterans' services from the DAV and introducing people to the rich history of the Civil War-era museum at 58 Andrews Street. The event begins at 2 p.m. and includes music, food, raffles, a photo booth and a chance to explore the museum and its artifacts.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Grand Army of the Republic Hall & Museum for this special event," said Andrea Gayle-Bennett, 1st Jr Vice Commander of DAV Department of MA. "It allows us to honor the past while focusing on the present needs of disabled veterans.

"Together, we can raise awareness and ensure that our heroes receive the support and recognition they deserve."

The GAR Hall & Museum is a historical institution dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization formed by Union veterans of the Civil War.

"The GAR Hall & Museum is excited to welcome the community and showcase our shared history alongside the work of DAV," said Wendy Joseph, Curator of the GAR Hall & Museum. "This event will foster a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans while highlighting the importance of ongoing support for those who have served."
