Grandmother Gets to Big Blue Games No Matter What

She may be Big Blue hockey's oldest fan and biggest supporter.

It's tough for Connie Morretti Petroni, 84, to get around but she gets to the Swampscott games.

At the last one, the  Connie got so emotional she could not move.

"I had to sit there, my heart was pounding," she said.

Her daughter Madeline Romano said it was a major feat for her to climb all the stairs — even with her children's help — at the Chelmsford Forum for the Medway game.

Due to health issues walking distances can be an issue and climbing stairs is exhausting.

"But she needs to be up high to be able to see the game," said Madeline. "We even managed to get her up standing on the bleacher seats (in Stoneham) at the game when everyone was standing."

For today's game at the TD Garden, her kids have got Connie a wheelchair.

Her son and four daughters will be watching the Swampscott vs. Westfield game at the Garden with her children.

Among the Big Blue players is her grandson, Nunzio Morretti, a junior.

"God, to see her face — she cries when Nunz makes a goal and is just so happy for him," Madeline said.

Connie also prays in the stands. Prays that the kids will not get hurt. Prays for a Big Blue win.

"I am really, really so escatic at the boys, how they are playing," she said.
