Harbormaster: Remove Boats From Swampscott Harbor As Soon As Possible

Tropical Storm Joaquin is bearing down on Massachusetts and that's just one of the weather issues this week.

Heads up, boat owners: Tropical Storm Joaquin is headed toward Swampscott, and that’s just one of the major weather issues we’re dealing with this week.

Swampscott Harbormaster Larry Bithell is advising that all boats be removed from Swampscott Harbor as soon as possible ahead of the approaching bad weather. His advisory remains in effect from Tuesday, Sept. 29-Sunday, Oct. 4.

“If you cannot remove your vessel, it is very important that you take additional measures to secure it to your mooring,” Bithell said in an announcement on the town website.

According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Joaquin is currently in the mid-Atlantic and there’s still some uncertainty as to how much it will impact southern New England by late this weekend. More imminently, a flood watch is in effect from late Tuesday night into Thursday morning as a cold front barrels through the area.
