Hollywood Comes to Swampscott Monday For Christian Bale Movie

Filming for the 1970s Abscam scandal movie will take place on Humphrey Street.

The Hawthorne by the Sea/Anthony's Pier 4 and the far parking lot at Phillips Park were quiet early Sunday night.

That quiet isn't expected to hold Monday morning when Hollywood action comes to the 153 Humphrey St. restaurant and 1970s cars are parked at Phillips Park.

Humphrey Street will still be open to traffic Monday but the flow may be slowed if drivers pause and crane their necks to see what's happening on the movie set.

The yet-to-be titled David O. Russell movie about the Abscam scandal is slated to shoot during the morning at the Humphrey Street restaurant.

It's unclear how the stargazing will be, and whether any of the shooting will be outside the restaurant. The town administrator told selectmen last week that police will work traffic details nearby.

The movie, which has filmed in Natick, Boston and Lynn, is about the 1970s Abscam scandal, an FBI sting operation.

It stars Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner.

Officials rented the movie makers parking for the day for $2,000, said Town Administrator Tom Younger.

The area to be used is in the far rear of the Phillips Park lot. That leaves spaces in the front portion of the lot for those using the athletic fields, the administrator said.
