Irish History Of Swampscott Explored In Free Library Program
Longtime journalist Anne Driscoll will share some of her research into the history of the Irish immigration population of Swampscott.
SWAMPSCOTT, MA — This history and impact of Irish immigration on Swampscott will be the subject of a special Swampscott Public Library program set for Monday night.
Longtime journalist Anne Driscoll will share some of her research into the role that Irish immigrants had in the town in a program through the Swampscott Recreation Department.
Irish immigrants have been part of Swampscott going back almost all the way to its founding in 1629 but their story was largely hidden from most chronicles of the town's early history.

Driscoll will trace the Irish arrival in the town and their influence on its heritage.
Her research documents that Irish arrivals included wealthy titans of business like Maurice Curran, local fishermen like Lucky Williams, and the scores of unnamed domestics who worked on the great estates of Swampscott.
