Letter: Impressed by Spellios' 'Enthusiasm and Passion'
A resident explains her choice for Swampscott Board of Selectmen.

To the Editor:
I have only recently met Peter Spellios, but I will be voting for him for a seat on the Swampscott Board of Selectmen.
What impressed me most about Peter is his enthusiasm and passion to engage, involve and unify our community. We need our elected leaders to be active in building consensus throughout the community on our most difficult decisions, such as last year’s debate over a consolidated elementary school. I was against the school proposal because I feel that it was ill-conceived and not educationally appropriate. I am deeply aware that both sides of this debate want the best possible school system for the children of Swampscott. At a recent event Peter correctly stated that the school proposal was a town issue – not just a school issue. It was disappointing that many of our Selectmen chose to sit on the sidelines rather than work creatively and collaboratively with the community to build proposal that everyone could support.

Peter Spellios believes that Selectmen should have to vote on warrant articles, such as the school proposal, before they get to Town Meeting, so at least the public knows where each one stands on important issues. More importantly, as a Selectman, Peter will roll up his sleeves and work with other leaders and concerned citizens to move thoughtfully and diligently to address the educational needs for the town of Swampscott. I know Peter Spellios is the leader we need to get our community working together towards this goal. Please join me in voting for Peter Spellios for Selectman on April 28.
