A New Business For the Blockbuster Space?

A massage and spa company wants to move into a portion of the empty Blockbuster space.

 

The Zoning Board of Appeals will hear a proposal from Massage Envy and Spa tonight.

The meeting is at the and the hearing for the proposed business at 1016 Paradise Road is scheduled for 7:15 pm.

Massage Envy Spa is a chain massage and spa company with more than two dozen clinics in New England alone. There are numerous franchises in the area including Cambridge, Back Bay, Brookline, Danvers and Saugus.

The company representatives will present their floor plan to the ZBA. They are seeking a special permit for the business due to its use and size, town Planner Pete Kane said.

The business is proposed for a section of the 4,700-square-foot Blockbuster Building.

Former tenant Blockbuster closed its doors Feb. 13, 2011, after having done business in Swampscott since at least 1998.
