Public Invited to Swampscott Master Plan Public Forum

The second of four public forums is coming up.

The second Swampscott 2025 Master Plan Public Forum is coming on Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Individuals who live, work or own a business in Swampscott are invited to come and help “ set priorities and identify strategies to further enhance Swampscott’s neighborhoods, economic vitality and overall quality of life ” as work on a long-range master plan for Swampscott continues.

This forum, the second of four, will focus on housing, economic development, and historic assets; the first forum, held May 21, was a vision forum that invited participants to help shape the goals of the master plan.

The event will be an Open House format, allowing participants to drop in at their convenience between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. A presentation will repeat every 15 minutes to provide participants with background information and data about the topical areas. Following the presentation, participants will have numerous opportunities to voice their thoughts and opinions at topic-specific station areas focusing on housing, economic development and historic assets; take part in mapping and visual exercises; identify potential opportunities for business growth, housing development, and preservation efforts; and more.

A summary of the second forum will soon be available on the project website. Future forums will focus on Transportation and Public Facilities (Thursday, July 23, 2015), and Land Use, Zoning and Plan Implementation (tentatively scheduled for late September/early October).

Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan, is being developed by the Town of Swampscott with the assistance of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) under the direction of the Master Plan Committee and Town Planner Pete Kane. When completed in late 2015, the Master Plan will include a set of goals, policies and strategies on topics including housing, economic development, historic and cultural resources, open space/recreation, transportation and more.
