The oldest youth sports organization in Swampscott begins its 60th year by announcing that basketball tryouts for this year's 5th-and 6th-grade Bantams(4th graders are also welcome) and 7th-and 8th-grade Cadets Girls and Boys teams will be held one day only, on Saturday, Oct. 26th, at the Swampscott Middle School located at 207 Forest Avenue. All those wishing to try-out must pre-register on-line at www.swampscottcyo.org. Registration will end at 5:00pm on Friday October 25th. There will be no registration on the day of tryouts. Please bring a basketball with you. All teams except the Boys Cadets use a 28.5 size ball. The Boys Cadets use the full size 29.5 ball. The schedule is as follows:
Boys Bantams (grades 5 and 6).....2:00-3:15pm
Boys Cadets (grades 7 and 8).....3:15-4:30pm
Girls Bantams (grades 5 and 6).......4:30-5:45pm
Girls Cadets (grades 7 and 8).......5:45-7:00pm
CYO plays a 14- to 18-game schedule beginning in late November and finishing with the state tournament in March. The organization differentiates itself from other grade level leagues and competes with multi-grade level teams.
