Swampscott Bank Robbery Suspect At Large Monday: Police

Police said a man attempted to rob the Salem 5 Bank on Paradise Road Monday morning.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A man who attempted to rob the Salem 5 Bank on Paradise Road Monday morning was still on the loose as of the afternoon, according to Swampscott police.

Police said the attempted robbery occurred at about 8 a.m. when a man described as white, wearing a surgical mask, gray hooded sweatshirt, gray pants and a tan baseball cap entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money.

The teller did not comply with the demand and police said the suspect then collected the note and fled the scene through the mall parking lot in the direction of Essex Street.

Police said the man, who the teller said had blond facial hair, blue/green eyes and was estimated to be in his late 50s, had not been located as of mid-afternoon on Monday.

"The safety and security of our community are of paramount importance to the Swampscott Police Department," Swampscott police said. "We are working closely with Salem 5 Bank to ensure the well-being of their employees, customers, and the general public.

"Any information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, could be crucial in the resolution of this case," police said.
