The Municipal Design Committee (MDC) will host a public forum to present designs for revitalized entrances to Swampscott’s town beaches—some of our most cherished, but neglected, public spaces.

Today, Swampscott beach-goers are greeted by a hodgepodge of signage, weeds, and discarded pizza boxes that do little to promote the respect these landmarks deserve or to improve the beach experience for residents.
Mark Gelfand, a catalyst and contributor to the revitalization project, noted the absence of even basic signs. “Right now,” he jokingly said, “you could assume our beaches are named ‘No Dogs At Any Time’.”

The MDC took up the cause and has designed beach entrances that are memorable and welcoming. The committee, comprised of local architects, landscape designers and graphic designers, will present renderings of the entrances that include beach markers, landscaping, and thoughtful amenities—all aimed at improving our connection to King’s, Fisherman’s, Whale’s, Eiseman’s, Phillips, and Preston beaches.
All are invited to attend the forum to review the plans and comment before the MDC makes a formal recommendation to the Board of Selectmen.
