Swampscott College to Close Later This Summer

Marian Court College graduated its first class of four-year degree students just last month.

Marian Court College has operated in Swampscott for more than 50 years, but will close its doors on June 26 unless enough money comes in to meet its financial obligations.

The Boston Globe reported that college President Denise Hammon cited declining enrollment as a key factor leading to the decision to close the school.

Marian Court College was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1964 as a secretarial school for women. The college evolved into a junior college and then a co-educational college offering two-year associates degrees. On May 16, 2015, Marian College graduated its first four-year degree students.
