Two-Alarm Fire Causes Significant Damage to Northstone Road Residences

No one was injured in the Wednesday afternoon blaze.

Update; April 8, 4:15 p.m.

No one was injured Wednesday afternoon when a fire broke out in a condo building on Northstone Road in Swampscott.

According to Swampscott Fire Capt. Graham Archer, the fire was concentrated on the third floor and in the attic of the two units located at 29 Northstone Road. Unit 1 was undergoing renovation at the time and no one was home in Unit 2 when the fire started. The contractors working in the first unit were able to escape unharmed.

Archer said firefighters received a call about the fire around 11:55 a.m. A second alarm for the fire was rung at about 12:10 p.m., which brought crews from the Marblehead, Lynn, Salem and Nahant fire departments to the scene and to cover Swampscott’s station.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly, Archer said. Still, the units are currently uninhabitable.

“There was a fair amount of structural damage to the building as well as smoke and water damage,” Archer explained.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

A second alarm has been struck for a fire on Northstone Road in Swampscott.

Swampscott firefighters are on the scene at 29 Northstone Road and mutual aid has been requested to assist at the fire as well as to cover the station, according to a Twitter post.

Swampscott dispatch confirmed that firefighters are on the scene, but could not currently provide any additional information.

According to property records, 29 Northstone Road is a multi-unit condo building.
