Swampscott Firefighters Respond to 5-Alarm Lynnfield Brush Fire
The fire burned more than 50 acres Wednesday afternoon.

The Swampscott Fire Department joined other local and state crews to battle a 5-alarm brush fire Wednesday afternoon at Reedy Meadow Marsh in Lynnfield.

Swampscott joined departments from Middleton, Danvers and Salem in a staging area along Heritage Drive at Main Street in case winds shifted and forced the fire to change direction, according to a post on the Swampscott Fire Fighters Union Facebook page.
“Over 50 acres burned,” Lynnfield Fire Captain Michael Feinberg said. No one was injured in the blaze.

Someone called 911 at 12:20 p.m, to report the fire. Swampscott’s Engine #21 responded while off-duty Swampscott firefighters reported to the station in order to handle any calls that came in while Engine #21 was out.
Formerly known as the “Lynnfield Marsh,” Reedy Meadow is the largest freshwater cattail marsh in Massachusetts. It is located in the towns of Lynnfield and Wakefield. The majority of the Lynnfield portion of the meadow is owned by the Conservation Commission - Town of Lynnfield and National Development, according to the Essex National Heritage Area.
