Swampscott Rail Trail Voting Results
A difference of less than 600 votes made the difference Thursday night.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Funding for the proposed Swampscott Rail Trail narrowly passed in a special vote Thursday night. Funding was approved, 2,741-2,152, as 46 percent of the 10,733 registered voters hit the polls. That's a difference of 589 votes.
Town Meeting approved the $850,000 for the project in May. The money is set to be borrowed over two decades at $65,000 a year.
The rail trial would turn abandoned railroad into a public recreational path stretching two miles from the Swampscott commuter rail station to Marblehead. A trail would be 10 feet wide.
