Swampscott to Receive More Than $4 Million in State Aid
The budget has passed the Massachusetts legislature and is awaiting Gov. Charlie Baker's signature.

Swampscott is set to receive nearly $3.2 million in Chapter 70 education funds and nearly $1.2 million in unrestricted funds as part of the Fiscal Year 2016 budget the state legislature recently passed.
The $38 billion budget is now on the desk of Gov. Charlie Baker.

In addition to the Chapter 70 and unrestricted funds, the budget the legislature passed includes a line item for $125,000 to be spent on “safety upgrades and repairs along state highway route 129 on the city of Lynn border in the town of Swampscott.”
In the FY2015 state budget, Swampscott received about $4.3 million, so the FY16 budget represents increased funding to the tune of $94,465.
The $38 billion state budget includes $4.5 billion in Chapter 70 funding and $979 million in unrestricted aid to local municipalities.
