As a recipient of the award, Golkari is among just 2,500 students nationally to be selected from a finalist pool of 15,000. The award is given to finalists in each ”judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies,” the press release reads.
A panel of college admissions officers and high school counselors selected the scholars after reviewing information submitted by the finalists’ high schools and the finalists themselves including test scores, rigor of classes taken, leadership and contributions in school and the community and other factors.
