Swampscott Speed Bumps Set Up To Slow Down Pine Street Drivers

Years of resident complaints about excessive speed in the area led the Select Board to approve the speed bumps and increased patrols.

Swampscott police said data collection from a speed board on the street supported the neighbor concerns about routine speeding down the street.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — It's finally time to slow down around Pine Street in Swampscott.

After years of complaints from residents about excessive speed in the area, the Select Board recently voted to approve traffic-calming measures with police saying on Friday that they will increase speed patrols as well.

Swampscott police said data collection from a speed board on the street supported the neighbor concerns, and because of that there will be the increased patrols in the area to go along with temporary speed bumps in the middle of the road.

There will be signs alerting drivers who may have whisked down the road in the past that the speed bumps are now there.

Swampscott police also remind residents and drivers that the closing of the Lynn MBTA commuter rail station will mean that shuttle buses will be used to take Lynn commuters to the Swampscott station starting Saturday for an indefinite period of time.
