Town of Swampscott Seeks Original Poetry
Entries sought from both Adult and Young town poets

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — The Town of Swampscott is currently accepting entries of original poems (of modest length) written by Swampscott residents for its Swampscott Town Poet Laureate award. Each applicant will submit three original poems to the main desk of the Swampscott Public Library by March 14, 2018. Poems submitted previously may be re-entered in 2018. Judges will review poems and a selection will be made during National Poetry Month, by the end of April, 2018.
There will be two Town Poet Laureates selected: one will be a young student poet from Kindergarten through Grade 4 and the other, an adult poet age 18 years and above (but no longer a HS student).
The Adult Poet Laureate position will be for three years to enable the chosen poet to work to encourage and support poetry experiences in town. The Young Poet Laureate will be for a one-year term.

Interested poets may submit two typewritten copies of each poem, one with the poet’s name, age, mail address, phone, and email address and the other copy without that information, both copies containing the poem’s title. All copies must also indicate the designation of “young poet” or “adult poet” based on the above age groupings mentioned. The committee looks forward to receiving your fine poems and to the daunting, but delightful task of selecting Poets Laureate for 2018. The Town of Swampscott is pleased to honor Swampscott’s diverse poetic talents.
