Victim of Lynn Police Involved Shooting Identified

BREAKING: The district attorney's office has identified the victim of Monday's police-involved shooting in Lynn.

LYNN, MA — The Essex County District Attorney's office has identified the victim in Monday's police involved shooting as Robert Dapkus, 57, of Lynn Shore Drive.

The DA's office indicated that Dapkus was a suspect in an armed robbery, was killed during the shooting. Lynn Police attempted to serve a search warrant at the male's apartment in connection with a Sept. 26 armed robbery.

A witness inside the apartment stated that the suspect was pointing a gun at the door when officers arrived and announced themselves at the apartment, according to the DA's office. When officers made a forced entry into the apartment, an officer saw the suspect pointing a gun at the officers, causing them to fall back.

The DA's office stated the suspect later ran into the hallway but was still pointing the gun at officers. Three officers then fired at the suspect, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The DA's office announced that it expects to release the names of the officers after investigators complete their interviews later this week.
