West Newbury Man Charged In 2021 Swampscott Fatal Crash

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A West Newbury man was arraigned on motor vehicle homicide and manslaughter charges in Lynn District Court on Wednesday five months after police said the car he was driving crashed into a tree on Paradise Road in Swampscott, killing a Lynn man who was his passenger.
Bryan Petruccelli, 25, was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Friday.
Swampscott police said that at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 29, 2021, they found Petruccelli's 2005 Honda Accord, which had apparently crashed into a tree after Petruccelli lost control of the car.

His passenger, Christopher Mateo, 33, of Lynn, was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital.
Swampscott police, the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction and Crime Scene Services Sections and the Essex County District Attorney's Office investigated the crash.
