Whole Foods Recalls Soup Over Labeling Mixup

Whole Foods Market announced earlier this week it is recalling soup sold in stores in six states, including Massachusetts, because the soup was mislabeled.

The Whole Foods Market Kitchens soup in question was labeled as Roasted Garlic and Eggplant Soup, but was in fact Lobster Bisque, which could pose a risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if eaten by anyone with a shellfish allergy or who is lactose intolerant.

Whole Foods says the soup has been taken off the shelves and was sold in 24-ounce containers between Sept. 29 and Oct. 2. The label includes a "sell-by" date of Oct. 4, 2012.

Signs have been posted in stores to notify customers of the recall. In the North Shore area, the closest Whole Foods is in Swampscott -- there also stores in Woburn and Andover.

Anyone who purchased the mislabeled soup can return it to the store for a refund. Questions should be directed to your local store or call 617-492-5500 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
