Zoning Changes Approved For Two Vacant Schools

The Swampscott Town Committee approved zoning changes for two vacant schools

SWAMPSCOTT-- The Swampscott Town Committee recently approved zoning changes for two vacant schools.

"B’nai B’rith Housing of Brighton will redevelop the former Machon school on Burpee Road into 38 one-bedroom apartments for affordable senior housing. It will preserve the original brick structure from 1920 but tear down the 1963 addition and replace it with a three-story annex with a smaller footprint," reports the Boston Globe.

The middle school on Greenwood Avenue, which was built in the late 1800s will be torn down; in its place will be a 28-unit building, some of that affordable housing, according to the Globe.

The former Machon School will be turned into a senior housing complex by the same developers if the proposal goes through. There will be a total of 84 units in this building, according to the Globe.
