AUTHOR VISIT: Uncover The Hidden History Of Boston with Dina Vargo

Thursday, August 30, 7pm

Author Dina Vargo will discuss her new book, "Hidden History of Boston." Historian Dina Vargo shines a light into the cobwebbed corners of Boston's hidden history. Boston is one of America's most historic cities, but it has quite a bit of unseen past. Did you know riotous mobs celebrated their hatred of the pope in an annual celebration called Pope's Night during the colonial era? Did you know a centuries-long turf war played out on the streets of quiet Chinatown, ending in the massacre of five men in a back alley in 1991? Did you know The Boston Guardian, an independent African American newspaper published by William Monroe Trotter, was a beacon of civil rights activism at the turn of the century? Monthly Art Exhibit

The Tewksbury Community of Artists has a new art exhibit on display in the library's Fairgrieve Wing. The show's current theme is "Fountains and Falls." Participating artists include Valerie Borgal, Tom Borgal, Betsy Grecoe, and Elaine Meisinger. The show is on display until Tuesday, September 11.

Friends of the Library Monthly Raffle Fundraiser

The Friends of the Library is raffling off four 30-minute Jump Passes to Altitude Trampoline Park in Billerica and an Altitude Carry Bag, valued at approximately $40. Tickets cost $2 each or five for $5. Tickets can be purchased at the library's Front Desk. Drawing will be held on Thursday, August 28. Winner will be notified via phone. Proceeds to benefit the Friends of the Library.
