AUTHOR VISIT: World War II Hero Shares His Story with John Katsaros
Tuesday, July 31, 7pm
Author John Katsaros will discuss his book, "Code Burgundy: The Long Escape." Surviving a B-17 bailout over France during World War II, airman John Katsaros was captured by the Gestapo. He was then rescued by the French underground in what begins a perilous quest for freedom through France and Spain. His detailed account unfolds a true story of grit, grace, and pure luck. Katsaros has resurrected the story after being sworn to secrecy by the US Government for 60 years. Katsaros is an American hero. His military medals include the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Cluster, French Resistance and WWII Victory Medals, POW Medal, Bronze Star, and the British Flying Boot. He also received France’s highest award, “Chevalier,” in the French Legion of Honor. He currently serves as President of the Air Forces Escape and Evasion Society.
