Wednesday, July 11, 6:30pm
Literary historian Rob Velella will perform his one-man show, "Nathaniel Hawthorne: The Haunted Mind." Remembered today for his novels like "The Scarlet Letter" and "The House of the Seven Gables," Massachusetts author Nathaniel Hawthorne focused on tales and short stories for the majority of his career. Due to his reclusive nature, however, Hawthorne never offered a public reading in his lifetime and, in fact, often scorned the fame which he earned. For this presentation, however, the author himself (portrayed by literary historian Rob Velella) will return to read some of his short works which explore the dark side of human nature. A Q&A session will follow the performance. Performance to take place on the library's back lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs. In case of inclement weather, concert will take place in the library’s first-floor Fairgrieve Wing. Look for the overflow parking signs if the main parking lot fills up. Register HERE.
