Police were dispatched to a Salem Road home on a report of a person who said they were armed and threatened to harm themselves.
Officers tried to convince the person to leave, but they barricaded themselves inside, police said.
The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team responded and assisted police in de-escalating.
The individual then came outside. No injuries were reported.
Police said they connected the person with the appropriate mental health resources.
“I am grateful to the professional work of Tewksbury Police and NEMLEC SWAT team for de-escalating the situation," Chief Ryan Columbus said in a statement. "This had a positive outcome, in which nobody was injured and the individual can receive the support that they need."
