TEWKSBURY, MA – The Public Health Museum is inviting the community to step into the rich and evolving story of nursing with its newly redesigned exhibit, Care, Compassion, Dedication: A History of Nursing. The exhibit shines a light on the profession’s remarkable journey—from humble beginnings in homes and battlefields to its central role in today’s complex health care system.
Tracing the arc of modern nursing, the exhibit explores how caregiving transformed into a skilled and regulated profession, shaped by times of war, social change, and public health crises. Visitors will encounter stories of resilience and reform, and learn how generations of nurses have advanced both patient care and public health through innovation, advocacy, and unwavering dedication.
To celebrate the opening, the museum will host a special open house on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests can enjoy light refreshments while exploring the updated exhibit. Adding a personal touch to the experience, gallery talks will be held at 10, 11, and 12, led by museum volunteers and former nursing professionals. These speakers will share insights from their own careers and reflect on how the field of nursing has evolved over time. www.Publichealthmuseum.org
