TEWKSBURY, MA — A man is expected to be charged after an armed standoff Monday, according to police.
Police were called to a home on March Road at 12:45 p.m. on a report of a man with a gun who had threatened others.
Police surrounded the home and attempted to talk to the man. A SWAT team was also called in.
The man came out of the home with his hand under his sweatshirt. When police ordered him to show his hands, he revealed that he had a knife, according to police.
Police continued to talk to the the man, but he refused to drop the knife. Officers then "attempted to use a less-than-lethal round" to disarm the man, police said.
The man dropped the knife a short while later, and police took him into custody.
He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The man, who police did not identify, will face charges once he is released.
“The officers who responded to this incident showed incredible restraint, professionalism and skill as they de-escalated this dangerous situation and ensured that no one got hurt,” Police Chief Ryan Columbus said in a statement.
