This month, join us for a discussion of Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena. Brecken Hill in upstate New York is an expensive place to live. But even all their money can't protect them when a killer comes to call. The Mertons are brutally murdered after Easter dinner and the primary suspects are the children who stand to inherit millions. Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood's newest DVD releases -- Sentimental Value. An intimate exploration of family, memories, and the reconciliatory power of art. The film was nominated for 9 Oscars this year. Starring Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård. Psychological Drama. Rated R. 2 Hours, 13 Minutes. Doors will open at 1:30pm. Film will start at 2pm. Candy & water will be served. A $1 donation is suggested to help cover the costs of refreshments.
IN PERSON: Puzzle Swap
Saturday, May 30, 9:30am-11:30am
Bring your jigsaw puzzles to swap. Puzzle pieces should be sealed tightly in a ziplock bag inside the box. Please tape the puzzle box close. Puzzle pieces should be totally disassembled -- no chunks! Participants may swap one-for-one (e.g., bring 2 puzzles, take 2 puzzles). Participants may swap up to 12 puzzles. Participants may also "purchase" puzzles, with a recommended donation of $2 (for a 500-piece puzzle) and $5 (for a 1,000-piece puzzle). These donations will benefit the Friends of the Tewksbury Library. Puzzle fantastic Sue Pedersen will oversee the swap, which will take place from 9:30am to 11:30am.

Assemble your team for a chance at puzzle victory! The first team to complete a special 500-piece puzzle will take home all the glory. Prizes will be given to the first, second and third place teams. To keep the competition relatively even, please note this race is intended for "amateur" puzzle racers. (People who don't regularly compete in speed racing.) Feel free to bring your own puzzles for a puzzle swap, which takes place from 9:30am to 11:30am, in the library's lobby, organized by puzzle fanatic Sue Pedersen. You can swap before and/or after you finish the race.

For a small country, Croatia offers an amazing array of geographic, cultural, and historic treats. Explore both the coastal region and the capital Zagreb. Beyond the food and sites, the welcoming Croatian people make visits here very special. Led by Gene Flynn, an Illinois native, who has taught at the College of Lake County and Harper College, and serves on the board of the Institute for Continued Learning at Roosevelt University. He frequently gives travel presentations to libraries and senior centers around the country, and has traveled to more than a dozen European countries.
VIRTUAL: Sounds Like Trouble To Me -- A Legal Thriller Inspired By True Stories (*RR)

Author Jean Trounstine will discuss her new novel, Sounds Like Trouble to Me, in conversation with Angelia Jefferson, a formerly incarcerated freedom fighter and now a participatory-defense transform-harm coordinator at Families for Justice as Healing. Based on a true story, Jean's novel sheds light on what happens when a corrections officer kills her abusive husband and suddenly finds herself on the other side of the law. Not only is she shocked with the systematic abuse against fellow female prisoners, but confronted with the complicated history of her own abuse. The officer-turned-prisoner must struggle with her fragile memory to uncover what actually happened before she goes to trial. The women she meets behind bars change her, and in the end, she spurs on a MeToo movement while imprisoned. Jean Trounstine is the author of eight books, an activist and professor who directed the first Shakespeare play in prison and co-founded the women's branch of Changing Lives Through Literature. She received a Gramsci award in Italy for 30+ years of justice work in prisons.

As a portrait painter in Boston during the 1760s, John Singleton Copley took a bipartisan approach to politics, painting both patriots such as Paul Revere and loyalist such as British General Thomas Gage. However, Copley was forced to take sides when the tea was thrown from his father-in-law’s ship during the Boston Tea Party. Explore Copley’s portraits done in both America over twenty years and in England over the remaining forty years of his life. Led by art historian Martha Chiarchiaro, owner of Seeing History.

A gentle, interactive story time designed especially for our youngest patrons! Babies and their caregivers will enjoy simple stories, rhymes, songs, and bounces that support early language development and bonding. This program is perfect for infants who sit in a caregiver’s lap and are just beginning to explore the world through sound and movement. Join us for sweet moments, early literacy fun, and lots of snuggles. Time is included at the end for a few minutes of play - get to know other families, explore our collection, and have some fun!

IN PERSON: Flower Wall Hanging

Get in touch with your artsy side with this Flower Wall Hanging craft! We will be using white air dry clay and pressing fake flowers and leaves into slabs to create our designs and paint to add the finishing touches. Creations can be used as a coaster, decor for the desk, or hung with string on the wall as a decroation! This event is for teens in grades 6-12. Questions?
