1. Saving butterflies in Tewksbury (lowellsun.com) — Behind the Tewksbury Public Library, the Monarch Ranch is turning a local patch of land into a vital stopover for migrating monarch butterflies through native plantings and careful breeding. Founder John Ryan hopes the restored habitat will soon host hundreds of "super generation" monarchs and invites residents to learn more about the nonprofit's hands-on conservation and education work across the region.
2. Lawrence man arrested on drug trafficking charges in Tewksbury (newportdispatch.com) — Tewksbury police have arrested a Lawrence man on fentanyl trafficking charges after investigating a recent fatal overdose at a Main Street motel, and he's now being held on cash bail. Local officers, with help from regional agencies, say they'll aggressively pursue cases tied to overdose deaths and are urging residents to report suspected drug activity through the department's anonymous tip line.
3. 10 Fall Festivals In Massachusetts Worth Planning A Trip Around (takingthekids.com) — One of the featured fall getaways is right here in Tewksbury, where Krochmal Farms' annual pumpkin festival offers free admission, hayrides, a corn maze, pony rides, and trick-or-treat weekends from mid-September through October. The roundup also suggests several other Massachusetts festivals, but emphasizes that families can enjoy an easy, budget-friendly autumn day close to home at 31 Jennies Way.
4. Massachusetts memorial honors 9/11 fallen firefighters (dailydispatch.com) — Tewksbury is among the Massachusetts communities whose fallen firefighters will be newly inscribed on the Massachusetts Fallen Firefighters Memorial's Ring of Honor, added during a ceremony marking 25 years since 9/11. State and local leaders joined families and firefighters in Boston to remember those lost in the line of duty and expand the memorial to reflect the growing number of sacrifices.
