Back to Basics - Part II - 2019 (Shihan Deb Davis, Patch Contributor)

Here is a great idea: Before your child heads back to school, start a conversation about what it means to support others, who are over-powered mentally by others; and remind your child how to be more than just a bystander. Any unwanted, aggressive, repetitive behavior that involves 'real' or 'perceived' power imbalance is wrong, no matter how long it has been accepted as normal. Ignoring these behaviors will NOT make them go away. Remind your child that when they see an imbalance of power with repetition, they should tell you, a teacher or trusted adult because it will make a difference and you will be proud of them for standing up for what is right. Yes, "Back to School" is a busy time of the year! Life is so much easier when we focus on the basics of what really matters...gratitude...kindness...vision...peace...etc. Be the #Upstander and the #RoleModel! Just #BeTheChange! "Now" is a great season to refresh the basics!
