Summer Concert Series: Poor Howard Stith & Mike Bullfrog Rogers (*RR) - Monday, August 7, 7pm
Enjoy a one-hour concert with 'Poor Howard' Stith and Mike 'Bullfrog' Rogers on the library's event lawn. The duo -- Howard on guitar and vocals and Bullfrog on the harmonica -- bring
alive the blues tradition that originated in the Mississippi delta region in the early 20th century in this "Walk Through The Delta" concert. Poor Howard, a scholar of early blues, has been performing for over forty years. He carries on the 12-string guitar style that emerged in the 1930’s. His guitar work and poignant vocals transport audiences back to what American life was like nearly 100 years ago. Bullfrog draws his harmonica style from the playing of Sonny Terry, and although he has mastered many styles from folk to country, he captures perfectly the southern country blues of the Great Depression. CDs available for purchase after the concert for those interested. The performance will take place on the library’s event lawn. Bring your own chairs or blankets.

Summer Living History Series: An Evening with Isabella Stewart Gardner (*RR) - Wednesday, August 9, 7pm
Enjoy a one-hour performance from actress Jessica Piaia as she portrays Isabella Stewart
Gardner. Known for her flamboyant manner and free-spirited ways, Isabella Stewart Gardner
became known as the first American "Patroness of the Arts." The ambiance of her Back Bay
salon on Beacon Street inspired the creation of "Fenway Court," an architecturally lavish
backdrop for her significant collection of Italian Renaissance art. Fenway Court known today as
the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, was willed to the City of Boston for the "education and
enjoyment of the public forever," and stands as a monument to her aesthetic sensibilities. Jessa
Piaia studied performance at London's Oval House Theatre and graduated from the University
of Massachusetts in Boston. Piaia currently works at Harvard University. The performance will
take place on the library’s event lawn. Bring your own chairs or blankets. In the case of

travels, selected readings from his novel, and a live performance from portions of his one-man
show, "The Chronic Single's Handbook." Ross, who holds a Master's Degree in Journalism from Northwestern, previously worked as the executive editor of PC World Magazine. Q&A and book selling and signing after the event for those interested. Limited to 75 seats.
