Board Backs New Tewksbury School Building

The $71.5 million building would tentatively open to 790 students in the 2022-23 school year.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- The Tewksbury Elementary School Building Committee unanimously approved a plan to build a three-story building for up to 790 students in grades two, three and four at the Ryan Elementary School. The tentative budget for the project is $71.5 million, with up to 52.06% of the tab being picked up by the Massachusetts School Building Authority. Under the plan, the school system's central office would also be demolished.

According to the Lowell Sun, which first reported this story, the building should be complete by the start of the 2022-23 school year. The plan still needs to be approved by the MSBA, and Town Meeting would need to approve the local portion of the construction costs next spring.
