U11 squad battles G-D to a 2-2 tie.

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the coaches and administration of the Tewksbury Youth Lacrosse program.)

U11 Boys Tewksbury - 2 vs. Groton-Dunstable (GD) - 2

The Tewksbury BU11-2 played a home game vs the GD-2 team on a very wet day at Livingston Park Fields.  GD-2 won the game by a score of 16 – 8.  The boys were playing GD-2 very close through the midpoint of the 2nd quarter where the game was tied at 6.   The GD-2 offense cranked it up by outscoring the kids 12 – 2 to close out the game.  Richie Markwarth made many good saves and clears trying to keep the Tewksbury kids in the game.  Shane Aylward led the scoring with 5 goals followed by Derek Schumaker with 3 goals.    You have to give the kids credit for hanging in there through the downpour of rain during the 2nd half of play.  Also making good passes at the mid field and attack positions were Connor Brincklow, Owen Gilligan, Robert Chisholm, Hunter DeLonais, Brendan Flynn and Matthew Rosemond.  Keeping up on defense with the GD-2 kids was Riley Auth, Matthew Brennan, Dtephen Duquette, Patrick Rosemond and Shawn Sears.  The kids next play next Saturday at Dracut.  Special thanks go out to all the parents, family members and fans that braved the bad weather conditions to cheer the kids on.

 Tewksbury Boys U-13 -1 (2) vs.  Littleton  U-13-2 (5)

In the “battle of the mud-bowl” under torrential rains, Tewksbury U-13-1 fell short against a very aggressive Littleton team by a score of 5-2. Penalties dominated this game and frustrations mounted due to a lot of hard questionable hitting taking place. This resulted in a lot of shaken up players and injuries. Under the circumstances Tewksbury fought hard and maintained their composure keeping the game competitive until the end.  Tewksbury’s defensive team, which included goalie Ethan Hepler who was backed up by JP Mooney, Matty McLaughlin and Ben Connors, did outstanding despite literally standing in an inch of mud the entire game .  Middies Nick Muise, Kyle Strong, Connor Power and Robbie Gilligan tirelessly sloshed up and down the muddy field to provide their Attackers Chris Lucas, Shawn O’Neil, Brandon Winn, and Brendan Sjostedt more opportunities to come back.  Nick Diminico and Kevin Carta  led the charge to keep the game close when both found the back of the net, assisted by Tyler Harvey, Jamesie Cash and Patrick Hunt.  Jimmy Strickler fought thru a very hard hit and minor injury, and was relentless on the Littleton players breaking up several offense charges. Ryan Flynn and Drew Fletcher made multiple stops and stick checks turning the ball back over to Tewksbury.  Great game guys – well played within the rules.

Tewksbury Boy’s U15-1 (9) vs. Groton Dunstable U15-1 (2)

Tewksbury Boy’s U15 - Team 1 recorded another win in their May 15th 9 to 2 victory against Groton Dunstable 1.  At the end of first quarter, Tewksbury was tied 2 to 2.  The defense led by goalie Jake Marchant and defenseman Garrett Christopher shutdown GDs offense for the rest of the game. Defensemen TJ Contalonis, Ryan Cunningham, Robert Paltrineri, and Connor Joyce executed a tight zone defense that could not be penetrated.  This was the team’s best defensive showing of the year. The offensive squad clearly contributed to the win with shots spread among several players.  David Dempsey enjoyed his fourth hat trick of the season, while PJ Wild recorded his second hat trick with 4 goals in the game, and Mark Gorman added another goal to his season total.  Garrett Christopher came up from defense in the fourth quarter to skim one over the puddles and into the goal.  Blake Schumaker created two great opportunities to score as a result of well executed fast breaks by midfielders Grant Callanan, Mike Larakis, Dan McColgan, Scott Pastorello, Brandon Fernandes, PJ Wild and Pat O’Brien.  Justin LaCau and Jack MacMullin helped to control the ball in the offensive zone and provide great feeds to their teammates to add to their assists for the season. Tewksbury plays their next game against Waltham on Sunday May 22 at 2:30 on Livingston Field.
