GU14-2 Tewksbury 3 vs Woburn 0
Thursday night, the Redmen and Tanners met again for the second time this season. The last match ended in a 1-1 tie and it took about 60 minutes for the Redmen to notch a goal in the last game so scoring early was a priority for the Redmen. These 2 teams began the match just as they had the last; very physical. In the opening minutes, Tewksbury was awarded a direct kick and Emily Sessa took advantage of this and sailed the ball over the keeper to get the scoring started. The second goal came out of a scrum in front of the Tanner’s net as Kayla Devlin tracked the ball well and tapped it into the net to bring the score to 2-0. Sessa then made a bid for her second goal but rang the post and Ashley Figucia just barely missed the redirected ball. The whistle blew with the Redmen up 2-0

Kate Gilbert went the distance in net and made several outstanding saves. One save in particular stands out as she scooped a loose ball up in the midst of several players as the Tanners were on the attack. Gilbert earned her 3rd shutout of the season. The defense in front of her did an outstanding job. Stephanie Travis, Tayler Laycox, Sam Surowiec, Victoria Mirabito, and Kelly Fortier were all solid on defense against Woburn’s strong, aggressive forwards. The game continued to get even more physical on the wet turf but with help from the midfielders the defense shut the door every time.
Alison Piracini, Maddy Wescott, Megan Lavino, and Samantha Mercurio worked hard at midfield and forwards Sara Baptista, Kayla Makooi, and Katie Dunlevy all had several shots on net but the Woburn goalie turned them away. To say they that the team worked hard is an understatement as it seemed like almost every Woburn player was bigger and stronger and often times it seemed like Woburn would get to the loose ball first but the Redmen teamwork and their ability to win the 50/50 challenges was the difference maker in this game.

Sam Mercurio started in net for Tewksbury and with the usual suspects in front of her made up of Stephanie Travis, Kelly Fortier, Victoria Mirabito, and Sam Surowiec; Mercurio would earn antother shut out. The defense only allowed 2 shots on net in the first half. Waltham didn’t allow a lot of scoring chances but did award the Redmen with a corner kick and Emily Sessa kicked a beauty but the Redmen could not capitalize on the well placed ball. At last the Redmen broke through with a score as Kayla Devlin, playing at center forward, carried the ball up the of the field and just past mid field she sent a bomb at the Waltham net and scored the lone goal of the game.
In the second half the defense remained the same for the Redmen and only allowed 1 shot on Mercurio who easily saved it and sent Waltham packing. GU14-3 Tewksbury 1 vs Burlington 1
The Burlington Red Devils came to Tewksbury with the highest scoring offense playing against the Redmen who have given up the fewest goals in the division so far this season. The match would end with a 1-1 tie keeping the Redman undefeated half-way thru the season at a 3-0-2 record. A very talented squad of Red Devil forwards was kept at bay for most of the game by what has proven to be a very suffocating defense of Redmen players. The scoring started when Burlington put a shot past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Caroline Ferrari for a 1-0 lead. Caroline, along with back-up Sandra Lantum, has a given up a division low of 3 goals thus far this season. Tewksbury had some excellent opportunities to put the ball in the net including a failed penalty kick by the sure- footed Karina Crowley who shot just over the crossbar. The first half would end at 1-0 Burlington. The second half of the game saw the Redmen turn up the pressure on the Red Devil defense. Tewksbury forward Stephanie Giles ripped a shot from about 20 yards out to the top corner of the net for a 1-1 score. The remainder of the game saw the Redmen hit the post, a Burlington defender making a great save on a open net and a diving save by the Burlington goalie. The game would end 1-1 tie. Tewksbury next game is away against Chelmsford.

GU12-6 Tewksbury 5 vs Wakefield 1
“Stamina” was the word of the day for the Tewksbury GU12-6 team. Playing with no subs “Team Untamed” had to show toughness in playing the entire game. They did this by maintaining their energy and showing great teamwork throughout the day. The shorthanded team consisted of Jane Kirby, Leanne Durham, Rebecca Smith, Rachel Figucia, Daisha Thompson, Kendall Donahoe, Isabella Beyloune, and Caitlin Sheehan. The girls jumped out in the 1st 10 minutes of the game with 3 early goals and coasted the rest of the way to an impressive 5-1 win. Scoring on the day was a hat trick from Durham who made it back from an overnight trip just in time for the game and two goals by Smith whose energy never waned the entire game. Assists were provided by Donahoe, Durham, and Figucia. Figucia peppered many nice shots towards the net in the 2nd half but kept just missing to the left. Everybody on the team got at least 1 shot on net and were able to play multiple positions on the day.
GU10-4 Tewksbury 3 vs Dracut 3
The Tewksbury GU10-4 team played to a 3-3 tie with the Dracut GU10 team on Saturday. Rebecca Defrancesco played goalkeeper in the first half and made some good saves. Julia Garland, who had a monster game on defense, scored first for Tewksbury off of a corner kick from Danielle Bain. Hannah Slattery put a strong shot on net but was denied on a good save from the Dracut keeper. Tewksbury held the 3-2 lead up until the 48 minute mark when Dracut tied it for good. Sabrina Alman, Caitlin Wahl, and Stephanie Mercurio played solidly, especially on defense.
GU10-5 Woburn 3 vs Tewksbury 1
On Saturday, the GU10-5 Tornadoes took on the undefeated Woburn GU10-3 team in their first match of the season. The match began with forward Abigail Hansbury taking the ball up the wing for the first confrontation with the Woburn defense. It would be the first of several heads-up plays
by Hansbury. Woburn was able to regain control of the ball, only to be taken back by fullback Jessica Satterfield. Satterfield cleared the ball to forward Katherine Marquis, but the Woburn defense was able to break up the play. Woburn managed to create a breakway situation, but keeper Makenna Rosberg's aggressive challenge prevented Woburn from finding Tewksbury's net. Later in the half, Woburn was able to find the wrong side of the Tewksbury goal line, in spite of a valiant effort by fullback Jessica Satterfield to clear the ball from the front of the Tewksbury net. The half would continue in this fashion, with each team trading possession of the ball. Forward Catalina Burke played her most aggressive game of the season, making thoughtful passes from the wing to begin the Tornado offenses. In spite of Tewksbury being able to place more shots on net than their opponent, the half would end with Woburn leading 1-0.
The Tornadoes began the second half determined to even the score. Center Allison Indingaro was able to squeak the ball over the Woburn goal line after an intense battle in front of the Woburn net to do just that. With the score tied, Woburn turned up the heat even further. Keeper Isabelle Carleton played superbly, and with the help of fullbacks Jade Owirka and Sara Boucher, was able to fight off several Woburn attacks. But Woburn would find the back of the Tewksbury net two more times in quick succession. Forwards Catalina Burke, Allison Indingaro, and Caitlyn Finnegan showed excellent communication and passing in the second half, but ultimately were unable to evade the skilled Woburn keeper. After the game, and in true Tornado fashion, Tewksbury immediately shrugged off the loss. The Tewksbury players insisted upon showing their respect for the Woburn team by cheering their efforts in a display of class that has become the hallmark of the Tornado team.
GU10-6 Tewksbury 5 vs Reading 1
The Tewksbury Tigers (GU10-6) met their 5th opponent in 5 games. Highlights included the first goal of the season for Alyssa Raso (#22, Right Forward) and "Hat-Trick" of scores from Casey Stevenson (#53, Right Forward). Erin Carter (#3, Left Forward), showed stamina and strong foot skills throughout the match. Erin's efforts would be rewarded with a goal of her own in the second half. Reading's GU-10 came out with renewed determination in the second 25 minutes and scored on persistent pressure lead by Reading's #81, Left Forward. None of Tewksbury's goals would have been possible if not for the unselfish assists of Tewksbury's mid-fielder's Abby O'Keefe and Mia Imparato. The Tiger's defense kept the ball in mid-field and in Reading's end most of the game. Heather Connelly (#25, Left Fulback) had an exceptional game. All Tiger team members contributed to truly a team win.

Despite a stellar performance by Tewksbury goalkeeper Madison Robillard, the Tewksbury GU 9-3 team were defeated by Westford at home on Saturday. The Westford girls dominated much of the play and had several breakaway shots on the Tewksbury goal, but Madison rushed out of net to break up several of the attacks, even diving on a loose ball to prevent a shot. Megan Boudreau continued Tewksbury's fight with a couple of strong shifts in net, and through her outstanding defensive play on the field. Hannah Keane was also a solid contributor for Tewksbury, leading some strong offensive runs while also hustling back to help the defense. Up front, Tewksbury's Marykate Callinan and Alexandra Fowler applied strong pressure on the Westford defense and played aggressively, but Tewksbury was unable to score, and lost to the Westford team 3-0.
Boys
BU14-2 Tewksbury 7 vs Malden 1
Coming off an impressive 6-0 win last week against Medford and 11-0 win over Melrose the week before, the Redmen put up a 7-1 win against Malden this Saturday. The Redmen came out aggressive and pushed the ball well keeping it in Malden's side for most of the first half. The Redmen scored their first goal when Chris McCabe launched a long pass down the left side to Ameen Kalkhoran who kept the form going off the back line and shot it in the net for the first of his 4 goals for the day. Ameen scored his second goal by going through a number of Malden defenders on the right side and finishing the job by tapping the ball into net passed the keeper.
Tewksbury was stopping Malden well before their 18 yard line and moving it upfield against a soft Malden defense. Nice saves by the Malden keeper and some shots hitting the crossbar kept the score 2-0 until Ameen took a chip shot from outside of the box which went over the keepers hands into the net making the score 3-0. The back line of Eric Gallant, Connor Dane, Chris McCabe and Jeffrey Carr as well as the midfielders Cody Souza, Adam Colon, Mohammad Yatim, and Gary Dixon were efficient again and shut down almost every attack and quickly moved the ball out of our side of the field. Goalkeeper Phillip Borges handled the few shots on goal easily in the first half. With 1 minute to go in the half Brendan Murray scored on a header sent to him by Ameen near the right post. This was the first of Brandan’s three goals on the day.
In the second half, Jack Bicknell had many attacks from the left side and took several shots at the goal. On two of these shots by Jack, Malden keeper failed to control the ball well which allowed Brandan with his excellent positioning near the net to tap the ball into net off rebound, making the score 6-0. The Redmen continued attacking the penalty box area and making it hard for the Malden defense to move the ball out. The Redmen’s final goal for the day was scored by Ameen taking a shot from the right side. Late in the game off a set piece Malden got the ball inside the penalty box and crowding it with players was able to get a shot passed the Redmen making the final score 7-1. That was only the third goal given up all season. Tewksbury's play again kept the game in the opponent’s side for a majority of the game. Smart play allowed us to make the most of opportunities that arose and exploit the weaknesses of the other team. The Redmen are playing well together and getting better as the season goes along. At the half way mark they are undefeated at 5-0. With some tough games ahead, they look to be up to the challenge.
BU12-1 Tewksbury 1 vs Woburn 0
The Tewksbury Boys Under 12-1 team beat the Woburn BU12-2 squad by a score of 1-0. Chris Repucci is credited with a well earned shut-out at the keeper position. Alex Papageorgiou scored the game's only goal at the 13 minute mark off of a rebound in front of the goal. It was all his team would need based on the solid defensive play of Patrick Carlton, David Gammon, Max Ducette and Gavin Slattery. David Durante, Nicholas Borges and Drew Fletcher kept pushing in their offensive assignments.
