The Squirts had their skating legs going early as they came out fast in the 1st period getting immediate pressure on the Lexington-Bedford defense which led to quality scoring chances from the line of Kaylen Taddia, Maci Chapman, and Shayne MacDonald. The first half of the period was back-and-forth, with Lexington-Bedford getting some scoring chances but Redmen goalie Caulin Martel made some outstanding saves to keep the game scoreless. With just over 5 minutes to play in the 1st period, Lexington-Bedford scooped up a loose puck along the right wing boards and scored on a nice pass across the crease for a 1-0 lead. The Redmen battled back and tied the game 1-1 when Jake McDonough picked up a loose puck at center ice, split the defense, and beat the Lexington-Bedford goalie with a wrist shot to the back of the net. The Redmen had multiple chances to take the lead at the end of the 1st with the line of Timmy Sweeney, Julia Stanizzi, and Austin Tingtella getting quality shots on net.
The 2nd period was a defensive battle with both teams relying on their defense and goalies. The Redmen got outstanding efforts from their "D" unit of Jade Owirka, Jared LeGrand, Chance Fitzgerald, and Cam Whelan, who were able to keep the puck away from the Redmen net and quickly moved the puck up ice to the Redmen forwards. The Redmen almost took the lead when Aidan Silvia worked the puck down low to Evan Zonderman but the goalie was able to make a great save on Zonderman's backhand. Jake McDonough scored his 2nd goal of the game with just over 4 minutes to play in the period off solid forechecking from Austin Tingtella and Trevor Lindsey. Redmen goalie Caulin Martel was called upon again to make a number of saves and he was up to the challenge to keep the score 2-1 for the Redmen. As the 2nd period was winding down, the Redmen relied on their "Girl Power" line as Jade Owirka made a nice play to break up a Lexington-Bedford forward, Kaylen Taddia picked up the loose puck and used her speed to find Maci Chapman along the left wing boards. Chapman and Taddia broke in and got off 2 shots that were turned away by the goalie.
