Medford 1
The Tewksbury Girls U12-1 travel team traveled to Medford this past Saturday with first place on the line. With field conditions poor due to a faulty sprinkler system, both teams had to fight their way through several large puddles on the field. Tewksbury came out a bit flat to start the game and had to fend off several attacks from a much larger Medford squad. Defenders Maggie Penta, Isabelle Picher, Rachel Sessa and Victoria Mirabito played excellent team defense throughout. Unfortunately, Medford found a chink in the armor and was able to score before the 1st half ended. Tewksbury awoke after halftime and controlled the play for the rest of the game. Rachel Prevost provided the spark the team needed with her hustle and determination. Everyone knew it was just a matter of time before her hard work would pay dividends. Shortly into the 2nd half, Rachel, gained the ball at midfield and proceeded to weave her way past several defenders and place a shot perfectly off the inside of the far post and into the back of the net. Tewksbury’s forwards Kelly Golini, Samantha Schultz, Jessica Cacciola, Kayla Devlin and Samantha Mercurio all were able to pressure Medford’s defense the rest of the way, but all attempts were stopped by Medford’s goalie. Emily Sessa continued her outstanding play at midfield and almost put Tewksbury ahead on a direct kick, but her shot sailed just over the crossbar. Midfielders Lillian Holden and Alison Paracini controlled the middle of the field and make several impressive passes in the offensive zone. Goaltender Lindsay Harris made an incredible catch on a powerful crossing ball late in the game to help secure a 1-1 tie and a share of first place with four games to go in the season.

Somerville - 2
The Tewksbury Redman GU12-3 team avenged their previous loss to Somerville on Saturday, May 14, 2011. The girls traveled to Somerville for an early morning game that ended up as one of the best games they have played. In this very close, evenly matched game the Tewksbury Redman took home the win with the winning goal coming during the 59th minute of play. The first half of play was action filled with both teams in a strong defensive mode. Somerville was able to score the first goal of the game late in the first half leaving the Redman down 1-0 going into the half. During the half time, the Redman were able to move their mind set into an offensive focus and went right to work at the start of the second half. With only one substitute to use throughout the game, the girls held to the principles of soccer and relied on each other more and more. Jocelyn Duval and Karina Crowley were superb in the net keeping Somerville to only 1 goal each half. Danielle Carrigg and Samantha Alman played an excellent game defensively and also took part in assists for the first two Tewksbury goals. The first goal came after a throw in deep in the Somerville side from Samantha Alman to Emily Stewart, who dribbled the ball through two players and took a shot on net. The second goal came from a corner kick by Danielle Carrigg, who lofted the ball that dropped in the center of the field allowing Karina Crowley to take a one-time shot straight on. Becky Reynolds and Robin Czarniecki were fearless on the field attacking the Somerville players and stealing the ball giving Tewksbury bids at the net. Somerville was able to connect on a deflected pass to score their second goal of the game. Brigid Voto was relentless in the corners in the forward position wining the ball several times and connecting with her team mates to continue the drive. With the score tied, Tewksbury was faced with an indirect penalty kick from within the goal box. The girls formed a strong wall and were able to clear the ball out before Somerville was able to get a shot on net. The winning goal came during the 59th minute of play when Karina Crowley sent a leading pass along the left side of the field to Deidre Roache. Deidre blasted it by the goalie! The game ended within seconds of the kick off sending the Tewksbury GU12-3 home with their 3rd win. The Redman will take on Wilmington next week and hope to be as successful as this week.

Burlington - 3
Facing Burlington for the first time this season, Tewksbury Redmen GU-4 gave an effort that was not reflected in the final score. Early in the
first half, the Burlington offense was thwarted by fulllback Miranda
Hulme, putting Tewksbury on the attack. After being roughed by the
Burlington defense, halfback Amanda Satterfield put a direct kick on the
net, only to be saved on the goal line by the Burlington keeper in a
controversial play. The Burlington keeper, seizing the momentum , punted
to the Tewksbury side, and after a great save by keeper Molly Hodgson,
Burlington was able to find the back of the Tewksbury net.. Later, Mary
Cortes stopped a Burlington drive up the left wing, while Nicole
Toland's head balls and long clearing kicks helped keep Burlingtion
scoreless for the remainder of the half. Tewksbury's offense came alive
in the second half, with forwards Emily Satterfield, Lily Wyatt, and
Priya Vijay all having shots on the Burlington net. Due to the efforts
of the Burlingtion keeper, none found the back. Aggressive defense by
Alyssa Theodos, Samantha LaLonde and Anabelle Barrett, along with key
saves and long punts by keeper Madeline MacMullin limited the Burlington
offense to two goals in the second half. Final score was Tewksbury 0,
Burlington 3.

Stoneham 4
Tewksbury 0
Playing in its sixth game, Tewksbury stumbled against an aggressive Stoneham squad in a 4-0 loss. Although Tewksbury was not able to get a goal by the Stoneham keeper, it was not from a lack of opportunities. Battling for position as a striker, Catherine Ozek outmuscled her opponent to drive the ball on net. Racing from the left corner, Ariana Calouro trickled her attempt toward the goalbox. After Monica Aronson nailed her corner kick, Alyssa Aurilio, Nicole Salvato, and Katie Adelsberger responded with a flurry of chances, but they came up short of scoring. Between the pipes for Tewksbury, Shealagh Doherty and Molly McDonald provided support to keep their teammates in contention. To complement the goalkeeping, Mary Bliss and Kayleigh Bishop carried rebounds from the defensive zone to pass the ball to their midfielders. Following a direct kick crushed by Emily Duquette, Jessica Ripley, Stephanie McHatton, and Makayla Calouro placed a barrage of kicks on the Stoneham net.

Waltham - 3
First half of the game, Lucas Frost, Brandon Melo, and Andrew Maresca quickly worked together passing the ball several times with shots on Waltham. Mike Reppucci on goal, worked hard to deflect several shots, but Waltham went on to score their first goal. Mike DellOrfano and Chad Boschetti tried their luck on the field with some shots as well. Ryder Neadson joined in and had some great plays all while keeping pressure on Waltham. RJ Florino with an injury from baseball provided some great backup with Kyle as defense. Andrew tied up Walthams defense, giving Brandon a shot to score for Tewksbury, tieing the game. Before the half would finish, Garrett with Mike D worked hard to keep Waltham from scoring, but the pressure was too much with Waltham scoring another goal, making the score 1-2 at half. Second half, Andrew continued with his great foot tactics on the field. Mike D helping Mike R out by blocking a shot. Mike R continued to make some great scoops throughout the game. Chad as defense showed that he would be a force to be reckoned with by keeping Waltham from getting to the goal alongside Kyle. Brandon had some great corner kicks but unfortunately, RJ & Kyle couldn't connect with the goal. Mike R did all he could to deflect the ball, but Waltham went on to score one final time. It wasn't from a lack of trying as Tewksbury did all they could. Final score, Tewksbury 1 - Waltham 3.

Melrose - 0
The Tewksbury Boys Under 12-1 team played well for a full 60 minutes to beat Melrose by a score of 5-0. At the 4 minute mark Jack Bicknell crossed the ball from the left to David Durante who stuffed it in amongst the scrum. Adam Colon stepped up from mid-field and put a strong shot on net that just broke the plane as the keeper handled it to make it 2-0 at 14 minutes. The last goal of the first half came at 24 minutes when David Gammon took a cross from Jack Bicknell and made it count. The Redmen made good use of their practice drills this week with many crossing plays and good corner kicks. Connor Dane took a rebound off a corner kick and put it right on net with his left foot. It skimmed the head of a Melrose defender and made it's way into the net just inder the cross bar for the fourth goal. While Alex Papageorgiou minded the net, Chris Repucci helped out with a goal at the 44 minute mark. He converted a rebound off of a shot from Ameen Kalkhoran for the fifth and final goal.

Reading - 1
Tewksbury BU14-1 tied Reading with a score of 1-1 this past Saturday in Reading. Tewksbury created its first scoring opportunity approximately 9 minutes into the first half when Tewksbury Striker Mitch Miskell was tripped in the box. The referee awarded Tewksbury a PK, witch Miskell unfortunately, sent it just past the left post. The game was pretty much played either in the mid-field or in the Reading half of the field. The first half game to an end with the score tied 0-0.
The 2nd half started and with 2 minutes played in the half, Dario Riparo received a pass from Tyler Sar on the right side and sent an unbelievable shot that went over the Reading keeper and hit just inside the left goal post. The ball bounced back into the keeper’s hands, but the assistant referee determined that the ball crossed the goal line. Tewksbury kept applying pressure and created various opportunities, but could not manage to capitalize on their chances. With 1 minute and half Reading broke out on a partial breakaway, the Tewksbury defender, slipped and this allowed the Reading striker to free himself and score the tying goal for Reading.
This game was an excellent game played by two very strong teams. There was plenty up and down action. The Tewksbury team played their hearts out considering that they were short staffed and only had 1 substitution available. Next up for Tewksbury is Lowell on Thursday evening in Lowell, followed by Wilmington on Saturday afternoon in Wilmington.
